– 79 million ads that was sending users to malware-laden sites
– 400,000 malware sites
– 66 million “trick-to-click” ads
– 48 million ads that caused unwanted software installation

In addition to this Google has also removed 320,000 ad publishers from their ad network. They have also banned close to 90,000 websites and 700,000 mobile apps from displaying google ads.

According to Scot Spencer, Google’s director of sustainable ads “After expanding our policy against dangerous and derogatory content in April 2017 to cover additional forms of discrimination and intolerance, we removed Google ads from 8,700 pages [that] violated the expanded policy,”.

Another action that lead to penalties for website is Scraping, which is the process of copying content or news from other websites. Over 12,000 websites were penalised for scraping. This count was 10,000 for the year 2016.
Also tabloid cloaking violations caused 7,000 AdWords accounts to being suspended last year, is a huge increase from previous year’s data of 1,400.

Google has also stated that it has implemented new technology and introduced 28 new advertiser policies and 20 new publisher policies to combat the surge of bad ads and scammers. Also Google has updated few of its policies to ban cryptocurrency-related advertisements.

Google has said that they will revisit their policies related to addiction treatment center advertisements. They will also be introducing a certification process for for these rehab facilities so that only legitimate treatment centers will be connecting with the people. Google had admitted to pagespeed being one of its ranking factor in 2010 but back then searches were mostly desktop searches. But now mobile searches have raised far and above desktop search.

If your website has Google AMP then this update should not be creating trouble for you, unless your pages are loading slow in spite of the AMP. So in short having AMP will not give you a clean chit, Google is not going to consider the technology you are using, the only thing that matters is the speed of the pages.
